Treading Lightly
Sustainability is at the heart of the Alchemy Tiles practice, guided by the principles of permaculture in which Mel was trained. Every choice within Alchemy Tiles is made with care for the earth and future generations. All packaging is either reusable, recycled, or biodegradable, often donated by local businesses so it can be given a second life when sending tiles out into the world. For extra protection, we use innovative eco-friendly packaging made by Cornish company Flexi-Hex, ensuring even the most fragile tiles travel safely and responsibly.
Nothing is wasted if it can be reimagined — plastic bags that arrive with clay or deliveries are repurposed in the studio to keep tiles moist during the making process. When they can no longer be used, they are cleaned and taken to specialist recycling centres. Single-use plastics are avoided wherever possible, and any that do pass through the studio are always recycled.
Alchemy Tiles exists in harmony with the land, rooted in a way of working that honours nature’s cycles — creating beauty while treading lightly upon the earth.
