Hand-carved encaustic tiles for architectural interiors

Alchemy Tiles offers bespoke hand-carved encaustic tiles for residential and commercial interior projects. Combining a rare heritage technique with contemporary design flexibility, each installation is tailored to integrate seamlessly within modern architectural spaces.

Every tile is individually carved and inlaid by hand, allowing for complete creative freedom, from statement feature pieces to full architectural installations. Projects range from high-end residential interiors to boutique hospitality environments where distinctive materials and craftsmanship form part of the design narrative.

Applications

Alchemy Tiles can be integrated into a wide range of interior and architectural settings, including:

• Kitchen backsplashes

• Bathrooms and wet areas

• Fireplaces and hearths

• Feature walls

• Bars and hospitality spaces

• Outdoor friezes and architectural panels

Because each tile is hand-cut to suit the design, layouts can be planned to minimise on-site cutting and ensure clean, precise integration within the wider scheme.

Collaboration

Each commission is developed in dialogue with the design team. Mel works closely with interior designers, architects, and contractors to ensure projects move smoothly from concept through to installation.

Early design collaboration allows layouts, colour palettes, and dimensions to be refined before production begins, ensuring the tiles sit harmoniously alongside surrounding materials such as stone, timber, metal, and cabinetry.

Materials & Process

Alchemy Tiles are created using traditional encaustic inlay techniques, where coloured clays are embedded within the tile surface rather than applied as decoration. The design therefore becomes integral to the tile itself, meaning it will never fade or wear away over time.

Colour recipes are developed in-house using fired earth pigments and oxides, allowing for a wide and nuanced palette while maintaining depth, durability, and richness of colour.

Lead Times

Typical production lead times range between 4–8 weeks, depending on the scale and complexity of the project.

Early consultation is recommended for larger installations or projects with fixed build schedules.

Installation

Professional installation can be provided by Mel, ensuring continuity between design, creation, and final placement. Installation guidance can also be offered when projects are being completed by external contractors.
