The Cornish Siren
"I must be a mermaid. I have no fear of depth and a great fear of shallow living."

The Cornish Siren
The Cornish Siren is the more untamed, intuitive side of Mel’s creative practice, a space where painting, sculpture, and animal portraiture unfold freely, guided by instinct rather than commission. Rooted in Cornwall and shaped by a deep connection to nature, myth, and spirit, this body of work explores character, presence, and emotion through clay, paint, and form. Each piece is created as an act of storytelling, sometimes playful, sometimes powerful, always soulful, and always made from the heart.
How it sits alongside Alchemy Tiles
While Alchemy Tiles is centred on collaborative, architectural work and bespoke commissions, The Cornish Siren offers a more spontaneous expression of making. It is a place for exploration, where ideas emerge without rules, timelines, or expectations, and where each piece is allowed to become what it needs to be.
Together, these two practices form a complete creative landscape: one rooted in precision, heritage craft, and place; the other led by intuition, imagination, and personal narrative.
What you’ll find here
This page offers a glimpse into the world of The Cornish Siren, including animal portraits rich with character, expressive sculptures, and experimental works that don’t fit neatly into categories. These pieces are created in small batches or as one-offs, responding to mood, season, and inspiration.
They are not replicas. They are moments.
From studio to home
Selected works from The Cornish Siren will soon be available to purchase through Mel’s Etsy shop, where this evolving collection will live independently of commissions. This space is being thoughtfully prepared, allowing each piece to be shared slowly and with intention.
If something here speaks to you, you’re warmly invited to return soon and explore what is becoming available.
The Wilder Edge of the Studio
